Blues Bruise Hurricanes Under 18 Team In Taupo
Coping with underfoot conditions reminiscent of Test Match Rugby at Murrayfield and a high-penalty count, proved too challenging for a spirited Hurricanes Under 18 team, who were defeated by the Blues Under 18 side by 20 points to 10, at Owen Delaney Park in Taupo today.
In a stop-start game played in windy and chilly conditions, the Blues took a 10 point to 3 lead into the half-time break. After 65 minutes the teams were locked at 10 all, but in the last 10 minutes the Blues scored a converted try and a penalty-kick (on the full-time whistle) to win the match.
For the Hurricanes, Treyah Kingi-Taukamo (St. Kentigern's College) kicked a penalty and conversion, with the team's solitary try scored by full-back, Rodderick Solo (Scots College).
In another Super Rugby franchise Under 18 match played today, the Higlanders Under 18 side defeated the Crusaders Under 18 team by 34 points to 20.
The Council thanks the Hurricanes Under 18 Coaching & Management Team led by Darren Larsen and Nick Reid respectively, for their work in preparing the team for today’s match.
