Under 18 Girls Relish Opportunity To Represent Their Provinces
Prior to the recent national lock-down, the Council had planned a residential Camp (to be held last week) for Hurricanes region Under 18 female players. With COVID-19 forcing the cancellation of the Camp, the Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Whanganui Provincial Unions arranged an opportunity for players to meet in Palmerston North for a game-of-three halves on the 2nd and 6th of October.
In last Wednesday’s fixture, the first-half saw Whanganui take on a strong Manawatu side. After a strong defensive start by the Whanganui, Manawatu's big ball carriers proved too strong and managed to break Whanganui's defensive line to score on a number of occasions. In the second-half against a Hawkes Bay selection which travelled down to Palmerston North, Whanganui enjoyed a better performance, starting and finishing strong to score three tries to one.
Meanwhile, Wellington arranged a four-team competition between three Wellington sides and Horowhenua-Kapiti played over the same period, which culminated yesterday, when the Wellington Samoa side defeated the Wellington Centurions team at Porirua Park.
