Hurricanes Heartland Team Win Round 1 Central Region Shield Fixture
Under overcast skies and on a heavy field, the Hurricanes Heartland Under 20 team won their first match in the Central Region Shield Tournament (proudly sponsored by Karaka Cafe), by defeating Manawatu Under 19 by 12 points to 3 at Palmerston North's CET Arena.
All the points in the game were scored in the first half, with Moo Moo Falaniki (Wairarapa-Bush RFU) and Jordan Tupai-Ui (Horowhena-Kapiti RFU) both scoring five pointers, with Sean Pape (Horowhenua-Kapiti RFU) converting once.
The Most-Valuable-Player of the match was Desmond Tyrell (Wanganui RFU). Head Coach, Darren Larsen was impressed by the team, following their solitary practice in the lead-up to the Tournament, on Friday.
With a win under their belt, the Hurricanes Heartland team will be brimming with confidence in meeting Wellington Under 19 in Palmerston North, next Saturday in their Round 2 match.
