Council Remembers Sir Brian Lochore ONZ KNZM OBE
The Hurricanes region mourns the loss of Sir Brian Lochore, a rugby icon revered not only nationally, but specifically as a kaumatua of the Wairarapa-Bush rugby community. Sir Brian was a vocal advocate for "Heartland Rugby", recognising that it is an essential foundation to the well-being of the game.
In perhaps his last radio interview, Sir Brian spoke to Adam Julian at the half-time break of the Lochore Cup Final between Horowhenua-Kapiti and Wairarapa-Bush at the Levin Domain on 28 October 2018. In the interview, Sir Brian reflected on the importance of Clubs to the health of Heartland Rugby, noting "if you neglect Club Rugby, you'll neglect Heartland Rugby".

The Council offers its sympathy to the Lochore family and all those who are saddened by the loss of Sir Brian. His contribution to the game will be long-remembered. "Me te aroha tino nui atu".
